Synopsis
Beau Bailey is suffering from a post-break-up meltdown when she
happens across a knife in her local park and takes it home. Less than a week later, the new boy in school has her trapped in an alley; he’s sprouted horns and is going to kill Beau unless she hands over the knife.

Until Eighteenth-century gargoyle, Jack, shows up to save her.

Jack has woken from a century-long slumber to tell Beau that she’s unwittingly been drafted into a power struggle between two
immortal races: Demons and Gargoyles. The knife is the only one in existence capable of killing immortals and they’ll tear the world apart to get it back. To draw the warring immortals away from her home, Beau goes with Jack in search of the mind-bending realm known as the Underworld, a place where they’ll hopefully be able to destroy the knife and prevent all hell from breaking loose. That is, provided they can outrun the demons chasing them.

Thank you to Jean bookNerd tours and the author for providing me with a copy in exchange for a honest review

When I first read the blurb for this story, I thought wow this sounds really awesome, and better yet, it looks like it’s a standalone, well let me tell you now, its not a standalone, it cant be expecially after the ending.

I really enjoyed the world building, the character building. I thought the writing style was really easy to read, and wasn’t over describtive but was just right.
It was my first book by this author and I definitely will keep an eye out for more books.

This book starts with Beau the lead female in a park. She hears something and when she investigates she finds a knife. This knife has the ability to kill immortals, so naturally they want it back.
Beau finds herself in the middle of a huge situation that makes some things go haywire inside of her. When the truth is revealed about who and what beau is, it was a jaw dropper, I didn’t see it coming.
Along the way Beau meets Jack, he is a gargoyle and protects her, but he doesn’t tell her all of the truth, beau is not happy when it comes out.
They go on a journey to get rid of the knife and that is full of peril, heartbreak.
All in all this book was really really awesome. It draws you in from the first page and makes you want to keep reading it. I cant wait to find out what happens next.

Welcome to Best Book's stop for this tour

Synopsis
Sara Jane Rispoli is still searching for her missing family, but instead of fighting off a turncoat uncle and crooked cops, this time she finds herself on the run from creepy beings with red, pulsing eyes and pale white skin chasing her through the streets in ice cream trucks; they can only be described as Ice Cream Creatures. While she battles these new pursuers, she's also discovering more about her own cold fury and more about the Chicago Outfit, how the past misdeeds--old murders and vendettas--might just be connected to her present and the disappearance of her family. But connecting the dots is tough and time-consuming and may finally be the undoing of her relationship with the handsome Max--who's now her boyfriend. But for his own safety, Sara Jane may have to end this relationship before it even really starts.
Her pursuers who've shown her her mother's amputated finger and the head of the Chicago Outfit who's just whistled her in for a sit-down make a romance unthinkable. The only thing that matters is finding her family and keeping everyone she loves alive.

Excerpt

Chapter 33:
He pulled my hand to his heart. “This beats for you, Jane Eva Austen. No one else. Ever.”
I didn’t know what to say. Speechless didn’t suit me. My mind fluttered into various u-turns and wound up a few places it shouldn’t before spinning out again and finding the right way home. I didn’t know what to do. I lied back down on the bed and Alexander did the same. We faced each other. He touched my face, and I rested my hand on his heart.
It was a blur that stood still. A windless wind. A storm without rain or thunder. It was everything and nothing. I just knew it felt right. For the first time in a long time, I was at peace.

I wrote my first short story when I was five, but when an assignment in a lit course challenged me to “rewrite” the last chapter of Jane Eyre I was hooked. I dreamt of going to an ivy cloaked university in England or Scotland, but my health issues forced me to rethink that agenda. Working through and with chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, food allergies, migraines and the scary health emergencies, I managed to finish both my Bachelor’s degree in English and History and my Master’s in Strategic Intelligence.

As a child, I wanted to be everything from a veterinarian (can’t stand to see any animal hurt) to an actress (too shy) to an astronaut (not good at science) to an Egyptologist (I wilt in extreme heat – or anything over 70 degrees). Writing makes sense to me. My characters pursue all the subjects that interest me and/or terrify me. I started with screenplays and TV scripts, and my first screenplay placed finalist and semi-finalist in several screenwriting competitions. Loving a challenge, I dove further into the writing craft to study dialogue, description, plot, pacing, story (if there was a book on writing I’ve read it).

When I’m not writing, I’m filling up bird feeders, troubleshooting computers, playing games (I’m a freak for logic problems and Tom Clancy video games), reading (anything by Jane Austen, Agatha Christie, Dean Koontz, Anne Rice), watching movies (I personally would like to recommend Joss Whedon be officially named a god). I’ve never met an animal I didn’t love and regularly rescue bugs and spiders. Living in North Carolina and Texas, I became the snake expert and successfully relocated many happy snakes who lived to tell the tale. I’ve lived in California, Arizona, Texas and North Carolina but have felt most at home in Virginia.

Tamed by Douglas R. Brown review

4 Stars

Werewolves have been domesticated and have become pets called Wergs. Everyone who can afford one seems to have one. The Werehouse tells them they are animals only and wont ever harm. But the Werehouse is hiding a lot of secrets.
Christine is a medic for the fire department and has never liked the Wergs. They terrify her. On a routine EMS call she goes to a house with her partner Billy and finds a gruesome sight. The owners of the house were killed by their Werg. Its still there and Christine is mauled by the animal. Some of the animals blood finds its way into her. As her life changes she meets Alex, a rogue werg hunter, and finds out explosive secrets about The Werehouse.

OK so the first few lines of the blurb really pulled me in " Werewolves are real.
And they make excellent pets."
Tamed was not what I expected. It was gorey, bloody, action packed and brought something new to the werewolf genre. The Werehouse is brutal in its taming of the werewolves and promises that the wergs wont harm, but like all "animals" there are an odd few rogues. When Christine turns she is the only female werg thats not controlled by Bernard Henderson (the owner and founder of The Werehouse) Any male werg goes crazy around her and the rogue hunters are trying to kill her. Her life is turned upside down but she has to expose The Werehouse for what it is.

Douglas Brown definitely doesn't shy away from the darker side of things and its not for the faint of heart or the squeamish. I really enjoyed Tamed and loved that it was dark and a kinda disturbing werewolf book!!! If you like dark and thrilling tales then this is for you.

A cow suicide, a revolving door rescue, and the birth of a bright purple pig are starting to make Kate Saxee wonder if taking a job in her small hometown of Branson Falls, Utah, was such a great idea. As The Branson Tribune editor, Kate covers local news, which, more often than not, involves her accident-prone mom. Nothing truly newsworthy has ever happened in the quiet town until local teen Chelsea Bradford turns up dead in a Branson Falls lake.

The police rule Chelsea’s death an accident, but Kate suspects there’s more to the story—and she’s not the only one. Two of Branson’s most eligible bachelors are determined to help her solve the crime—among other things. But the small town social network is faster than Twitter, and gossip about Kate’s love-life is quickly branding her the Branson Falls hussy.

As Kate learns more about Chelsea, she discovers that plenty of people are trying to cover up the real story behind the girl’s death—including Chelsea’s parents. Now Kate has to juggle work, men, her mom’s most recent disaster involving a low-speed John Deere Combine chase on the freeway, and fend off the Mormons heaven-bent on saving her soul—all while solving Chelsea’s murder. Dealing with this is going to require a lot of coffee, chocolate frosted donuts, Neil Diamond's greatest hits, and a slew of words not on the town approved imitation swear list.

Fire (hand of kali #1) by T.G Ayer ~review by alice

Fire (Hand of Kali, #1)Fire by T.G. Ayer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Thank you to the author for providing me an EArc in exchange for an honest review.

Wow where do I begin, Ms. Ayer has done it again; her books just keep getting better and better.
I love the world building that the author does, and you can tell she really does her research when dealing with myths, legends and religions, she really knows her stuff.
The world and character building is just amazing, and makes me feel as tho I have been dragged into the world and never want to leave.

I loved the characters in this book, Tee really knows how to write a kick A** female lead. Maya is headstrong, knows her weaknesses, loves her friends and will do anything to protect them. She knows her limits, knows how to push herself and prove that she can become the hand of kali and reach her destiny.

I won’t tell anything about the story except to say that it was magical, wonderful and can’t wait for the next book.

Loved all the other characters, Nik he was an enigma to begin with and when you found out who he really was, understandably Maya was pissed at him but soon understood why he had done what he did. Really enjoyed the really slow build up to their romance, and I can see that going in a really good direction.

Maya’s parents tho I know why they lied to her for years, I felt they should have told her a long time ago to prepare her instead of leaving it till she was already in danger.

The bests friends Joss and Ria. Joss made a choice at the beginning that made things come to a head with Maya and when joss found out the truth she couldn’t stop apologising for making it happen, but she more than makes up for it in the story. Loved her as a character she really pulled thru.
Ria for me wasn’t strong, she bowed down too much too her father, but then I don’t know anything about Indian culture and how father’s even in the 21st century can still rule with an iron fist. Some things that happened to Ria did make me feel for her but in the end I felt like she let everyone walk all over her.
If you love a good paranormal book that is infused with culture and mythology then this book is definitely the one for you. If you have read anything by this author before and enjoyed it then this book is for you.

Can’t wait to read the next instalment,

Hot Blooded (Jessica McClain #2) by Amanda Carlson review

Jessica McClain has just discovered she's the biggest threat the supernatural world has seen in over eight-hundred years, but there's only one thing on her mind - finding her mate. Rourke's been kidnapped by a wicked goddess and his only chance of survival lies in her hands.

Finding Rourke and defeating the goddess proves to be difficult enough, but when the Underworld comes calling and Jessica discovers she's accused of crimes she hasn't committed, the entire game changes. The price they are demanding for her freedom is too steep. There is no way she can ever pay it back

Review
5 stars
In the second installment of the Jessica McClain books we see Jessica along with Tyler and Danny on a mission to confront a goddess and save Rourke. While defeating a Goddess is anything but easy she also has to contend with things she never even heard of before.
Hot Blooded was amazing. It was everything the first book was and more!!! Jessica is trying to save Rourke but even before she gets there she has to fight things she has never heard of or seen. How do you defeat something when you don't know their weakness? Throw in Ray and 2 vamps and you have an action packed edge of your seat book. This book is a book that had me going from one emotion to another in a few pages! Theres betrayals, kidnapping, vows made and vows broken. There is never a dull moment.
Amanda Carlson has created some awesome characters. Jessica is kick ass but in Hot Blooded I think my favourite was Danny. He is a breath of fresh air. Loved him. I hope we see more of Danny and Rourke in coming books. Highly highly recommend.

Consume by Melissa Darnell, review by alice

Consume (The Clann, #3)Consume by Melissa Darnell
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

SPOILERS!!! READ AHEAD ONLY IF YOU HAVE READ THE PREVIOUS BOOKS

NetGalley Review

Wow this book picks up right where Covet finished. Tristan is going thru the change after Savannah had to change him into a Vampire to save his life. It takes a few months for him to regain his memories and control his bloodlust, and in that time him and sav have a few problems that make you want to knock their heads together.
They end up back home, and from there things quickly go downhill.
This book made me cry, it made me laugh, it had me hoping and wanting a happy ending for Sav, Tristan and all their friends and family, sadly that doesn’t go as planned and im not gonna say anymore about it since I don’t want to ruin it, but I will say READ IT AS SOON AS ITS OUT!! This book is freaking awesome.

I absolutely adore the writing style of Ms Darnell, it has you hooked from the very first page. I hadn’t reread Covet before reading this, and I didn’t need too, it all came rushing back to me as soon as I started Consume. I loved the world building, the descriptions of their world and lives, it made me feel as if I was actually there living it with Tristan and Savannah. I also loved how this book is told in the dual POV of Tristan and Savannah, you get to have a real insight into both characters into what they are both feeling.

I cant say anymore without giving away the secrets of this book, but I will say it was the PERFECT ending to a AWESOME series, and I will be waiting in anticipation for this authors next book to see where she goes, and what she writes.
